When I was pregnant with Grayson, I loved reading Baby Must Haves, Baby Essentials, and jotting down what we needed. As a first time mom, I was excited to go shopping for everything, so I may have gone a little overboard with things. That’s ok though, you’ll learn what things are a must and what isn’t. Now, with confidence, I can tell you what we used and feel is a must have on your baby checklist.
Here are 20 must have items for your baby. (Note: They’re not in any particular order)
Multiple purpose ointment that effectively relieves dry, cracked, chapped, or irritated skin. Protects to help heal minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. Free of fragrance, dyes, and preservatives, making it gentle for sensitive skin.
2. Sharper Image Sound Soother-
We live on somewhat of a busy street, so it helps drown out the outside noises. As well as any noises you may have inside; you doing dishes, laundry, and TV. Soothes and helps baby sleep more peacefully uninterrupted.
3. Baby Trend Stroller-
Whether you’re an outdoors person, runner, need to run errands, or need to put baby to sleep like us. A stroller is a very useful thing to have. This one in particular has meet our needs and helps give a smoother, more enjoyable ride for the baby, as well as being a breeze to pack and unpack.
4. Wipe Warmer-
I’m sure there will be a few people that will say you don’t need this but, for Grayson and ourselves, it’s helped. As for Grayson, he hated cold wipes on his little bum, especially at night. He would end up waking up at night while changing him due to a cold wipe. Warm ones helped him sleep right through the feeding and change then right back down to sleep.
5. Little Remedies Saline Mist-
We’ve dealt with congestion mainly at night and mornings since about week 1. So our pediatrician recommended Saline drops or mists to help clear things and loosen up things. This one in general has been the best for Grayson.
6. Pampers Swaddlers-
This is definitely a no brainier, diapers are a must. BUT, we have tried different brands of diapers and this is what we have stuck with. They truly live up to their purpose. Pampers family all the way!
7. Baby Trend 3 n 1 Pack N Play-
This specific pack n play has catered to our every need and situation. He has slept in it since newborn to now (9 months) and still going strong and has held out perfectly. (Naps and bedtime)
Lifesaver without a doubt. Known as the snot sucker, yes I know sounds gross but truly gets the job done and done well. Its designed to place against nostril (not inside) parents use their own suction to draw mucus out. (no does not get in your mouth, there is a filter) Truly is a god send for babies.
9. Happi Tummi-
With a fussy baby due to acid reflux and gas, sometimes it was rough on him and us. This helped relieve that gas and relieved a constipated baby. 100% natural herbal remedy that provides relief of gas pain and calms a fussy baby. Happi Tummi works for most digestive issues that cause a fussy baby to cry. This includes colic, gas, constipation, cramps, bloating, and so much more.
10. Receiving Blankets-
Most mothers love to swaddle their babies. These are great for swaddling. You can get a pack of different style ones for a great price compared to the swaddle blankets themselves. They are very lightweight to help to not overheat your baby. Also perfect to let your baby sleep with as its not to heavy or big. (Remember to keep an eye on baby if does sleep with any garments).
11. Dreft Laundry Detergent-
With laundry loads going to triple, this is definitely a must. Grayson goes through 4-5 outfits a day, whether from a poop explosion or spit up mess. Gentle enough for sensitive skin babies.
12. Johnson’s Nighttime Wash/Lotion-
If you want to start a nighttime routine early, like we did. I highly suggest Johnson’s Nighttime products. They not only moisturize the skin, but the calming scent will help the baby associate it to bedtime. Has worked well for us!
13. Hyland’s Teething Tablets-
These have helped to not only our son get restful, pain free sleep due to teething, but has helped mom and dad get a little more z’s! We all know how teething can get. Very hard on everyone. He loves them and takes like candy. They are a homeopathic formula that effectively and safely alleviates your child’s teething aches & pains.
14. Dr. Brown Bottles-
As a mom who couldn’t breastfeed and has to bottle feed early on, I wanted good, trusted bottles. With my son already spitting up a ton from acid reflux, I didn’t want it worse. These helped with less spit ups, and with less tummy issues. Even though it can take forever to wash all the parts, it’s so worth it.
15. Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail-
Not only is it sleek looking for the nursery, which is a plus, but it can hold a lot of diapers and hold in odors. Rather then tossing diapers in the trash to stink & have to take out trash immediately. It has lived up to their expectations.
16. Gerber Cloth Diapers (Burp Clothes)-
They’re reliable enough to hold spit up messes. You can get a good amount for a good price compared to the burp clothes.
17. Changing Table-
We are tall parents so changing on the low bed or anywhere else just killed our backs. The changing table has saved us and our backs. Also can hold everything you need to take care of your baby. (Diapers, Lotions, diaper creams, wipes, wipe warmer)
18. Fisher Price Bounce Chair-
This is another one of those that people will disagree with needing but for us it was quite a lifesaver. Not only because we had a pet that he needed get accustom to, but I also knew he was safe if I had to step away to use the restroom or throw a load of laundry in. And of course was comfortable for him.
19. Baby Trend Inertia Car Seat-
Dependable, safe care seat. Don’t just purchase cheapest one, make sure your baby will first off be safe and secondly comfortable. This particular one was a smoother ride for baby because it had a spring balance system. Top safety rated. Adjustable to your babies height has they continue to grow. To top it off was a very stylish car seat.
Used for multiple purposes. We mainly used it to feed him and to this day at times still do. Just wrap around your belly and lay him on it and then your arms are free as well. Other purposes are to lay him on it or use to help him sit up when the time comes.
